HALL of Famer Willie Mays has left the world of baseball in mourning after his death at age 93.

His son Michael Mays confirmed the MLB legend's death in a statement through the San Francisco Giants.

Willie Mays' son, Michael Mays, is the adopted son of the legendary baseball player. 

Michael was adopted by Willie Mays and his ex-wife, Marghuerite Wendell Chapman, in 1959.

Marghuerite Wendell Chapman, was married to baseball legend Willie Mays from 1956 to 1963.

Marghuerite was born in St. Louis Missouri, 1926.

Before marrying the baseball legend, she had two children from a previous marriage.

Marghuerite and Willie married in 1956, during the height of Mays' baseball career.

The couple adopted Michael Mays in 1959, providing him with a family environment amid Willie Mays' demanding career as a Major League Baseball player.

The marriage between Willie and Marghuerite ended in divorce in 1963.

The reasons for their separation were private, and both stayed under the radar after the split.

Not much is publicly known about Marghuerite's life post-divorce until she passed away in 2010 at the age of 84.

News of Willie Mays' death at age 93 was first reported on Tuesday evening.

The San Francisco Giants, where he spent much of his MLB career, announced the news in a tweet.

"My father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones," Mays' son Michael told the Giants, via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.

"I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years. You have been his life's blood."

Mays was the oldest living baseball Hall of Famer.

His cause of death has not been made public.

The news hit the baseball world hard, with a flood of tributes pouring in on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"All of Major League Baseball is in mourning today as we are gathered at the very ballpark where a career and a legacy like no other began," Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.

Manfred went on to call Mays a "true Giant on and off the field."
