‘You can get somebody killed’, rages New York Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen at Miami Marlins’ live TV play in MLB game

The Mets record a win despite chaos in the third inning

SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen was enraged during the third inning of last night's game between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets.

With two outs in the third inning, the Marlins third baseman Emmanuel Rivera fielded a ground ball.

He threw the ball to the Marlins' second baseman Otto Lopez for the third out but Lopez did not realize how many outs there were and proceeded to throw the ball to first base.

The ball sailed over the first baseman Jake Burger's glove nearly flying into the stands which pushed Cohen to the brink.

"The inning is over. Nobody on the field seems to know how many out there are. I mean, come on. 5-4 force ends the inning. You can get somebody killed that way," Cohen said.

Fans rushed to the video to share their thoughts on the play and Cohen's reaction.

"Gary was absolutely right!!" wrote one fan.

"Wow take a chill pill Gary. You drinking decaf?" commented another fan.

"It happens all the time almost daily, there is confusion on amount of balls and strikes, outs in the innings. Poor broadcasting from Cohen," wrote a third fan.

"Saying you’ll get someone killed that way is a bit of a stretch," claimed a fourth fan.

"Overly dramatic Gary," commented a disgruntled fan.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez was at the plate at the time the chaos ensued and ended the night 1-4 with a single to right field.

Despite the mess in the third inning the Mets ended up cruising to a 10-4 victory.

The Mets will finish their series with the Marlins tonight as each team has recorded one win a piece.

It has not been a successful season this year for the Mets as the team currently sits in fourth place in the NL East standings with a 29-37 record.

After the Mets wrap up their series with the Marlins they will host the Padres for three games beginning on Friday, June 14.

Before the Marlins series, the Mets played the Phillies in the MLB World Tour: London Series.

MLB rule changes

Below are some of the MLB rule changes for the 2024 season.

  •  Runner’s lane has been widened
  • The pitch clock has been reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base
  • Four mound visits allowed

The Mets fell to the Phillies 7-2 in game one but rebounded with a thrilling 6-5 win in game two.

The London series has been held for three years now and is expected to continue moving forward.

The Marlins haven't been any better as they sit at the bottom of the NL East standings with a record of 23-44.

They have won just one of their last nine games and will be looking to avoid another series loss tonight.

The Marlins will travel to Washington D.C. to play the Nationals in a three-game series starting tomorrow.
