The Steelers officially waived Mims, 26, alongside safety Trenton Thompson on Wednesday.

The wideout didn't make a single appearance for Pittsburgh during his time with the team.

The ex-Baylor standout started his career with the New York Jets, who drafted him at No. 59 overall in 2020.

In three years at MetLife Stadium, he logged 676 receiving yards on 42 catches and no touchdowns.

Mims requested a trade from the Jets in 2022 before being granted his wish a year later.

He was sent to the Detroit Lions in a deal involving 2025 conditional late-round draft picks.

The Lions waived the wide receiver a month later.

Mims has earned over $4.2 million in his career so far.

NFL fans found the wide receiver's departure suspicious, wondering whether the Steelers could be preparing to trade for San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk

"Waiving Mims is weird," one wrote.

"Aiyuk when?" another added.

"Who you making room for? Does their name rhyme with Brandon Aiyuk?" a third joked.

"Announce Aiyuk," one wrote.

Aiyuk is involved in a contract standoff with the 49ers with the two sides struggling to agree on an extension.
