WED RINGER

I planned the most special proposal for my partner, I was left speechless with how she responded

The ring maker thought they'd been an email glitch

TWO sweethearts made secret plans to spring surprise proposals — then found they’d bought almost identical rings.

Caelidh Walker used a special diamond band she had commissioned to pop the question to her partner Karen Ann Innes, 31.

But when she got down on one knee, whisky worker Caelidh, 26, discovered teacher Karen had requested an almost identical engagement ring to be made by the same jewellery firm — and she had it in her pocket at the time.

Caelidh said: “The rings are a sign we are just made for each other.”

She planned her proposal last month at Portencross Beach near West Kilbride, Ayrshire, with the help of the couple’s golden retriever Bear.

The location held special relevance because it was where they’d become a couple 11 months ago.

Caelidh said: “It is probably one of our favourite places to walk Bear.

“And one time Karen said in passing about how nice it would be to get engaged down there.

"So I stored that in the back of my mind for the future. I had set up a little tent and a sign and, just as I got down on one knee, Karen had whipped her ring out as well.”

The couple then discovered they had both commissioned rings from Colin Campbell jewellers in Inverness.

Karen said: “We’d approached them within days of each other but had no idea.

"And each of us had chosen the same diamond design — the only thing slightly different is the settings.”

Jeweller Lorna Reynolds, 53, said: “Caelidh got in touch with her ideas for a design, then two days later Karen emailed in with an almost identical request.

"I thought there was a glitch with my emails and I had received the same message twice.

“I’m glad the secret is now out there and we can share the good news.”
