She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on November 26, 1932, and appeared in her first television role in the anthology drama series Studio One in 1957.

Before her big break in Bonnie and Clyde, Evans starred in numerous TV shows including The Donna Reed Show, Wagon Train, Death Valley Days, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Evans was also a three-time Broadway star in the productions of The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, A Distant Bell, and The 49th Cousin.

She had an uncredited role as Mrs. Randolph in John's 1966 movie, Grand Prix, and in his 1989 film, Dead Bang.

BONNIE AND CLYDE

Evans starred in Bonnie and Clyde with Gene Wilder, who also made his big-screen debut in the film.

They played two young lovebirds who noticed that Eugene's (Gene) car was being stolen by hoodlums.

Eugene and Velma were standing on their front porch kissing as this happened.

They took off after the thieves but thought better of it and turned around.

However, the thieves, Bonnie (Faye Dunaway) and Clyde (Warren Beatty), turned around and chased them.

Bonnie and Clyde kidnap the couple, but they turn out to have a good time, laughing at jokes and ordering take-out.

The couple is then kicked out of the car, as Eugene reveals he is an undertaker, which upsets the death-obsessed Bonnie.

OTHER WORK

While Bonnie and Clyde was the biggest film Evans starred in, her career spanned five decades and 25 films and TV shows.
