Country singer Mark Chesnutt cancels upcoming shows after undergoing emergency heart surgery and asks fans for ‘privacy’

The surgery came only months after Mark took time off touring at the end of 2023 when he was hospitalized for chronic health issues

COUNTRY artist Mark Chesnutt is recovering from an emergency heart surgery and has canceled upcoming shows through at least September.

The singer announced the news on Wednesday in an Instagram post.

Mark, 60, shared a photo of him on stage, standing behind a microphone and holding his guitar.

He smiled and pointed his finger at the camera.

However, the Ol' Country singer's caption was much heavier, as it detailed the heart issue he experienced on Sunday, which led to his hospitalization and urgent surgery.

Mark then revealed that he could no longer perform at his upcoming concerts.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows. I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you," the songwriter's statement read.

FANS' WISHES

Fans flooded the comments to wish Mark a speedy recovery.

"OMG — please get well soon and do not rush your recovery," one person urged.

"Praying for Mark and those close to him," said another.

"So relieved this post didn’t end the way I thought it sounded like it was going to! Praying for your full and quick recovery," a third wrote.

"May you heal quickly and feel great soon!!" added a fourth.

Mark was scheduled to perform on Friday in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Saturday in George West, Texas.

Before the health setback, he was preparing to tour the United States this summer.

The Texas native also was set to perform at Dauphin's Countryfest 2024 in Canada on Sunday, June 30.

Mark's summer shows have been removed from his website, which lists his soonest upcoming show on September 5 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

The Brother Jukebox singer has been suffering from health issues for quite some time, as his team revealed in November 2023 that he was undergoing a medical evaluation.

Mark further explained his condition in an Instagram post.

"To my family, friends, fans and the country music community… Many of you who know me well, know that I have been struggling with a battle that I’ve fought to overcome for many years on my own," the vocalist began.

"Now after some extreme health issues I’ve recently experienced the time has come. The fight is over."

Mark has been an icon in the country music world, with dozens of top-ten hits - eight of them reaching number one - on the Billboard Hot Country charts.

He's been primarily recording on independent labels since 2002.
