AMERICANS will have started receiving payments from Disney after a settlement was finalized earlier this year.

A class action lawsuit was filed against the company alleging that it failed Dream Key holders by not upholding its promises.

Anyone who bought a Dream Key from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts between August 25, 2021, and October 25, 2021, was part of the lawsuit.

The Dream Key is the highest Magic Key giving holders the opportunity for reservation-based admission.

The suit alleged that key holders could not make unrestricted park reservations despite Disney promising "no block out dates" as part of Dream Key holder benefits.

"(The plaintiff), and others similarly situated, have not received the benefits of the Dream Key passes that were promised to them," the complaint claimed.

Instead, key holders were offered something described in the lawsuit as "a far cry from what Disney advertised to consumers and from what Disney sold to its customers."

While Disney Parks and Resorts has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to settle in a $9.5 million payment to eligible class members.

In agreeing to settle, Disney resolves the claims made in the lawsuit and those who did not exclude themselves from the payout will not be able to bring future legal action regarding the same allegations.

Under the terms of the settlement, claimants will get an equal split of the $9.5 million payment fund.

After a final hearing was held in March 2024, each class member can expect a payment of around $67.51.

Payments started arriving to claimants on June 14 via mail and email.

What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all "class members," or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions - offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company's doorstep.

Meanwhile, there are other opportunities for Americans to claim payments.

Drivers who have dealt with a dealership in Illinois may be eligible for a one-time payment of $1,300.
