‘What’s up with that?’ rages Walmart customer finding half of registers closed – and open stations don’t even take cash
A FUMING customer slammed the megastore for only having half of the registers open.
Walmart has faced an onslaught of anger online over its self-checkout machines and the lack of flesh and blood operators.
"@Walmart why half the registers be closed at every location i go to??? and then half the registers be card only/no cash back," Little Miss Pretty (@kalynwydd) wrote in a post on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.
"What’s up with that???"
Walmart's customer service profile swiftly responded to the post.
"This is an experience we don't want our customers having, Kalyn," they wrote. "Can you send us a DM with more details about your experience?"

Walmart's self-checkout machines have been the subject of several online rants.
One furious customer recently revealed that he left his cart in the middle of the store after realizing that the only way to check out was through the machines.
"I will not use self-checkout. I went to a Walmart that did not have a single breathing checker, only helpers in the self-check line," Roger Douglass (@RogerDouglass83) wrote in a post on X.

"I left my buggy sitting there and walked out," they concluded.
The post was in response to a social media thread asking users what the worst part of grocery shopping was.
Latest self-checkout changes
Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.
Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.
Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.
While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.
One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.
However, that test run has been phased out.
At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.
Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.
As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.
"I won't shop at a store that doesn't have actual checkout people," Paul (@pstarr779) responded.
"I don't get paid to be a cashier. Fk Walmart," he added scathingly.
Walmart has also come under fire for their receipt checkers.
Many customers slammed the megachain arguing if the company trusts them to scan their items, they shouldn't have to double-check their receipts.
One customer refused to wait in line to leave the store after scanning their own items.
"I will not stop!" a shopper declared about receipt checks in a Facebook post.
"Either their employee rang up my stuff already and they don't trust their own or most likely I did their job with no discount.
