Fallout creator has terrible news for fans of some of the series’ best games
FALLOUT has seen renewed popularity following the success of the hit TV show, and people have been demanding more video games.
One of the most popular requests has been for remakes of the original game and the sequel Fallout 2 as many modern players find the old titles difficult to get into.
Bethesda currently owns the Fallout franchise, but was not involved in the development of the first two entries.
Fans love the original games for the deep story, interesting moral choices, and the high level of difficulty to reach peaceful conclusions.
Popular YouTuber MrMattyPlays had the chance to interview Fallout 3, 4, and 5 director Todd Howard about Bethesda’s plans for the series.
Matty asked Howard if he would be interested in updating the original games and making them more “beginner-friendly”.
The original games are critically acclaimed, but new players find them difficult to play due to their expansive menus, unintuitive gameplay, and dated top-down 2D graphics.
Howard responds: “The main priority for us is making them available, making sure you can still play them… and making sure they run okay.
“Beyond that, we’ve talked about it, but our priorities in terms of dev work haven’t been in those areas.
“We want it to load up and run well. I think the charm of games from that era and the original Fallout is a little bit of that age.

“I would never want to paste over that by saying ‘Well we changed this out so it’s more modern.’ I want people to experience it the way it was.”
Bethesda doesn’t have a history of remaking its games. Instead, the company favours ports, re-releases, and reboots.
Howard’s words aren’t vague in the slightest. Fallout fans will have to enjoy the original two games just as they are.
