Purdue vs NC State analysis
There’s no denying the run NC State has been on. They’ve been underdogs in all but one game this tournament, which was the Round of 32 against Oakland.
Here, they’re going up against one of the best teams in the country with, Purdue. NC State will likely task Mohamed Diarra against Zach Edey. Of course, there’s a height discrepancy with Diarra at six-foot-ten and Edey at seven-foot-four.
Per KenPom, Purdue averages 126.4 points per 100 possessions while allowing 95.3 while NC State scores 115.1 points and allows 99.
Two key aspects of Purdue’s offense is Edey and their nation-leading three-point shooting.
They had a down game against Tennessee and still came away with the win. They typically shoot north of 40% but were at just 20% in that game.
NC State generally allows teams to shoot 33.5% from beyond the arch, but of course, the number has been far better recently, holding Duke to 25% and Marquette to 12.9%.
Before the Elite Eight, Purdue shot 53.6% from the floor and over 45% in the Elite Eight.
As for NC State, through the Sweet Sixteen, they shot 47.4% from the floor and 46.7% against Duke.
NC State also shot 37.1% from beyond the arch through the Sweet Sixteen.
Purdue vs NC State pick
NC State has gotten a lot of contributions from Burns Jr., Horne, Diarra, and Morsell this tournament, but they’re running into one of the best shooting offenses in Purdue.
They still scored 72 points after making just three three-point shots and shooting just 63.6% from the free throw line.
Again, there’s no denying this amazing run NC State has been on, but it’s incredibly difficult to hold down a team like Purdue with Edey.
We’re taking Purdue to win here and cover as they’ll have a better performance from the free throw line and three-point range.
