Iowa State vs Illinois analysis

We’re getting a battle here of the offensive juggernaut against the defensive stalwart. Illinois is that offensive team with Shannon Jr. scoring at will this season and the tournament and Domask turning things on.

Of course, Iowa State is a defense unlike any other, ranking No. 1 in adjusted defensive efficiency, holding teams to 87.5 points per 100 possessions, per KenPom. Iowa State also holds teams to 40.2% from the field and 31.5% from the field. Per game, they hold teams to 61.3 points per game.

This is truly a battle of defense versus offense.

Iowa State vs Illinois pick

When it comes to picking this game, we’re leaning toward Illinois. Iowa State has a fantastic defense, but Illinois has the talent to match up with the defense. Additionally, Iowa State lacks a star player to really be the go-to guy to get a basket. Illinois has Shannon Jr. and Domask, and Iowa State is more of a “committee” team.

Take Illinois +1.5 here.
