I regret my 2-month-old daughter’s name – it feels strange to say it out loud, I usually just refer to her as ‘baby’

She decided on the name after taking a 'sign' that it was meant to be

A REGRETFUL parent has opened up about her name remorse for her two-month-old daughter.

Although she thought it was a good idea to draw inspiration from her own name (because, like mother, like daughter), two months later, her feelings about the name soured.

The mom shared the baby name in a post on a What to Expect forum.

"Has anyone regretted the name you chose for your child? What did you do to make yourself feel better? Did the feeling of regret subside over time?" she asked.

The parent explained that she had initially chosen the name based on her own name, as she thought it would be cute if her daughter's name matched hers.

"For context, my name is Gina Marie, and I named my daughter Gianna Rose," she said.

"I’ve always thought it was a beautiful name, but now that she’s here, I’m starting to regret my choice.

"I’m not sure if it’s cute that it’s complimentary to my name or if it’s silly and unusual.

"I usually just refer to her as 'baby,' I rarely refer to her by her name because I feel strange saying it out loud."

Despite the remorse, she explained that a name change wasn't on the table.

"Changing her name would not be an option. I would not want judgement from outsiders," she said.

"I know, she’s my child, and I shouldn’t care what others think. A part of me also thinks that I would regret changing her name to something else, too."

She explained that the name had been a collective suggestion from members of her community.

"I was having trouble deciding what name to choose for her before she was born, so I asked for a sign to help me choose which name was best for her," the mom said.

"Not long after, there were several people [who] took a guess that I would name my daughter Gianna, including my parents, my in-laws, friends, and co-workers."

The mom took the guesses as the sign she was looking for.

I usually just refer to her as 'baby,' I rarely refer to her by her name because I feel strange saying it out loud.

"How could I not take this as a definite sign to name her Gianna?" she asked.

"My mother also has a 'G' first name, so I wanted to continue the 'G' name tradition with my daughter as well, or so I thought."

Other moms advised her to stick with the name as it might grow on her.

"I like the name you picked. I think you should just start calling your daughter that and just try to get over it," said one.

"I wouldn’t change the name. You’ll probably change your mind again.

"I would just try to like it and call her the name. It’ll grow on you."

"Honestly, I don't see anything weird about this at all. It's close-ish, but also a different name. Gianna is beautiful!" agreed another.
